If you find the name ‘IPPUDO’ familiar, then you are probably right.
It has a brand new outlet (Note: The 10th outlet!!!) at The Star Vista (To those that stay in the west, e.g: myself – this is a great piece of news!!)
For the first time ever and ONLY at this outlet, IPPUDO will be serving cafe-inspired dishes and coffee offerings.
Riding on the trend of brand collaborations, IPPUDO will be collaborating with Hattendo, an expert in its field, to dole out Japanese soft cream buns at the new outlet.
At IPPUDO Star Vista, guests all get to tuck into creative cafe offerings in a restaurant setting in addition to its usual ramen offerings.
Presenting you one of its finest… The Lasagna Gyoza! ($10)
Initially, I thought that this contained beef (I don’t eat beef), but it is just a combination of IPPUDO’S signature gyoza, potato chunks and cheese. The taste is not overpowering and yet pleasing to the taste buds. Definitely a good appetiser for a start!
Spam Mustard Itame ($9)
A luscious tomato sauce pulls all the ingredients together, and fresh parsley gives the dish an aromatic lift. Continue the indulgence with Spam Mustard Itame ($9), which stars spam, potato, pan-fried broccoli with pork stock and grain mustard.
I was not a person who often eats broccoli, but somehow I ate more than what I would expect of myself. Probably because it was well-marinated with the aromatic taste, but I felt it made a good combination with the potato. I would recommend it as a side dish alongside main dishes as the portion isn’t really huge.
This Ebi Mayo is simply the bomb! Initially, I was still worried that the meat would be a bit dry but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually very well-marinated. The sauce complemented the prawns really well – I would recommend this dish for all prawn lovers.
Now here comes the exclusive ramen dishes (ONLY at Star Vista outlet!)
The Maze Soba ($15/with tamago; $12/basic) is a comforting bowl, starring homemade dry noodles tossed with handmade minced meat miso paste. The dish is topped with diced chashu, spring onions, bamboo shoots, seaweed, onset tamago and fried noodle bits.
It reminds me a little of mee goreng, but of course a more atas version. The combination is VERY flavourful; and do ensure to drip a few drops of lemon (the lemon slice will be provided) – It enriches the taste even more. Try it!
Tan Tan Men ($19/with tamago; $16/basic) comes with thin and straight noodles mixed with a special blend of Japanese sesame paste and IPPUDO’s signature tonkatsu broth. It is then topped with a medley of spicy minced pork torso, pork loin and fresh coriander. For a zesty perk, squeeze in some fresh lemon juice.
I KNOW how spicy it looks but trust me, this is indeed a deceiving photo. When I first saw the soup, I was like “DAMN, this must be on fire“.
Surprisingly, it is SO NOT spicy at all.
In fact, this unexpectedly became my favourite of the media tasting. The taste is rich, and every mouthful is just bursting with goodness.
IPPUDO The Star Vista outlet has officially open to the public on 6 November 2017.
