4 Useful TIPS for getting CHEAP flights on Skyscanner!

You will probably find the following tips especially useful in the following scenarios:

  • If you have NO idea WHERE to go or WHEN to go but you just want to travel!
  • If you have an idea of WHERE to go but don’t know WHEN to go!
  • If you are a budget traveler!
  • If you are a traveler on the lookout for cheap deals to score!

Tip #1: Find the Cheapest Flight Tickets to anywhere in the WORLD!

If you are planning a trip but have NO IDEA of where to go and how much to spend for your trip – then here’s are 2 ideas.

Don’t know WHERE to GO?

Just put in your departure airport (i.e Changi Airport) and put EVERYWHERE as your destination in the Skyscanner website!

Don’t know WHEN to GO?

Choose the Cheapest Month for the Departure and Return dates!

Skyscanner will immediately show you a list of the cheapest air tickets from around the world (in the last 15 days!) and you can get your travel inspiration from there! Would say that sometimes, you will be able to bag a good deal here! Let’s see for instance in this list – I saw that prices for a return air ticket to Taipei starts from $177 and that’s a really good price! O_O

Dont Know Where to Go_V1

Just click in and you can see the calendar where you can view the prices of the return ticket to and from Taipei in the cheapest month of the year. From the chart, I chose 9th May – 16th May.

After selecting the dates, Skyscanner will search through all the airline sites and show you an entire list of flights available to you on those dates – with the lowest pricing on the first page of course! I think this is a really good deal – a direct flight via TigerAir to Taipei for $177 (taxes inclusive) per person? Not bad at all! 😉

Check your availablity to fly and if you can – BOOK IT! Note that Skyscanner does not sell flights directly; instead – the site is used to find the cheapest flight deal and you will be transferred to the airline or booking website to make your booking directly.

Don’t worry!

What you see is what you get.
No hidden fees or extra charges for using Skyscanner!

You can see from the booking site that the price still remains the same at $172 AND you don’t need to re-key in all your travel details again ! 🙂

What you see is what you get

Now you might say, ah – then I could have just searched via.com directly to get my flight in the first place right? But take a step back and think about it – without Skyscanner; you wouldn’t have know that via.com offered the cheapest price till you used it right? 🙂

Tip #2: Sign up for Price Alerts

Now imagine you found a good flight deal and you want to observe the price for the next few days while you make the decision to book the tickets. Well, did you know that you can set a price alert for your desired route? Just click on Get Price Alerts, type in your email and you will receive email updates from Skyscanner informing you on the change in the cheapest flight prices available everyday.

And yes, you can set more than 1 price alert 🙂

Note that you will ONLY receive the email if there is either an increase or decrease in the prices = no spammy emails!

Price increase – oh no 🙁

Price decrease – GOOD NEWS!

Note: Price Alerts can only be used for RETURN / ONE WAY flights

Tip #3: Play Around with Skyscanner Options

Skyscanner will always show you the cheapest prices for your desired route and if you are a budget traveler, you might be happy with the first search option. But what if you are a picky traveler like myself?

Now that’s when Skyscanner offers you the option to customize your search at the search bar on the left! This is where you can customize the different options available – such as timings, duration of flights, airline and even airport options. Of course, this means the price might remain the same OR increase depending on your choices. But at least you will know the estimated prices for your flight at your preferred airport and timings(:

Here’s an example where I ticked the direct flight option on the same route to Japan. So now I have an option to choose between a cheaper flight of $373 (VN Airlines + 1 stop in HCM) VS $436 (Delta, direct). It’s up to your personal preference if you want to save the extra $63 and have a stopover in HCM or take the direct flight(:

Tip #4: Complete your trip – Compare Hotels, Airport Transfers and Car Hire Deals!

If you think Skyscanner is only useful for comparing flight deals – that’s where you are wrong! Did you know that you can also compare hotel and car hire rental/airport transportation deals to get the cheapest prices as well?! Yes, Skyscanner is like an ALL-IN-ONE site for you get the most bang out of your buck, very very useful!

Now if you were thinking of traveling – it’s not too late to make plans for a Japan trip to view the cherry blossoms in March you know 😛 Just don’t forget to always check and compare prices through Skyscanner before you book your flights!
