Homegrown brand launches ultimate baking challenge to unearth local baking stars
Trusted homegrown brand SCS butter has long been accepted as the brand that baking enthusiasts turn to for their baking needs. In acknowledgement of passionate bakers islandwide, SCS will be launching the ultimate baking contest – the SCS Star Baker Challenge 2014 – in June, where aspiring bakers will be acknowledged and rewarded for their baking efforts and achievements.
The three-month campaign will culminate in a final ‘live’ bake-off in August, where the top four finalists stand to win fabulous prizes like an all-expenses-paid trip to Australia and more. Above all, the winner will take home the esteemed title of Singapore’s Top 5-Star SCS Baker!
The SCS Star Baker Challenge 2014 invites all passionate baking-enthusiasts to showcase their baking skills by registering as a member on the SCS website and then submitting photos of their creations to website’s event submission page. All submissions must include a SCS foil-wrapped butter block in order to qualify.
SCS rewards all valid entries by acknowledging them as a SCS 1-Star Baker with a certificate to congratulate them for embarking on their baking journey.
SCS Star Baker Challenge 2014: Frequently Asked Questions
1. Who can enter the SCS Star Baker Challenge2014?
TheSCS Star Baker Challenge 2014 is open to all Singapore Citizens and legal residents of Singapore. Interested participants who are under the age of 18must first obtain permission to enter from a parent or legal guardian and,during submission, tick the check-box indicating that you have obtained permission.
2. How do I enter the SCS Star Baker Challenge2014?
To enter the SCS Star BakerChallenge 2014, simply register as a member on the SCS Dairy Singapore website,and upload your entry in the event submission page located on the website.
If you are already a member,simply login to your account and upload your entry into the event submission page.
Please ensure that your submission contains a foil-wrapped block of SCS in the photo. Entries without a foil-wrapped SCS butter block in it will be recognised as a 1* Baker, but will not be eligible to proceed to the next Star challenge.
3. Does it cost anything to register as an SCS Dairy Singapore member?
No, registering as an SCS DairySingapore member is absolutely free!
4. Is there a limit to the number of entries per person?
Each participant can submit multiple entries. However, only the first submission will be taken into consideration.
5. What is the duration of each Star challenge? How will I know if submissions for a particular challenge are closed?
- 1-Star Challenge: 1 – 20 June2014
- 2-Star Challenge: 22 June – 4 July2014
- 3-Star Challenge: 6 – 12 July2014
- 4-Star Challenge (submissions): 20-27July 2014
- Public voting for finalists: 30July – 8 August 2014
- 5-Star Bake-off event: 17 August2014
A notification email will be sent to all eligible participants when each Star Challenge is closed. In addition,the submission page will be locked at the end of each challenge.
6. Why am I ineligible for the 2-Star Challenge?
Only participants who have successfully completed the 1-Star challenge are eligible for the 2-Star challenge. Similarly for the other Star challenges, it is a pre-requisite to first pass the previous Star challenge.
7. Will my entry be included if I send it before the closing date,but you only receive it after the closing date?
All entries submitted before the closing date and received before the commencement date of the next Star Challenge will be included.
8. How will I know if my submission is successful?
All successful submissions will be replied to with an acknowledgement email. If you have submitted an entry have not yet received your notification email, please check your emailJunk/Spam folder. Please give 2 working days for submissions to be processed.Please contact SCS at scsstarbakerchallenge@gmail.com if you still have not received your acknowledgement email after the processing period.
9. What does it mean if I do not receive the congratulatory email after submission?
Congratulatory emails will be sent out to all participants who have successfully submitted their entry, and who have successfully completed all pre-requisite tasks and complied with all submission rules and criteria. If you have completed all of the above and still have not received a congratulatory email, please email SCS at scsstarbakerchallenge@gmail.com. Please give 2working days for a reply.
10. I successfully uploaded my entry into the competition, but I can’t see it in the online gallery. How do I check if SCS has received it?
All successful entrants will receive an acknowledgement email. If you have submitted an entry have not yet received your notification email, please check your email Junk/Spam folder.Please give 2 working days for submissions to be processed.
Only selected entries will be uploaded to the online gallery. The online gallery is not an indicator of whether SCS has received your entry. Please contact SCS atscsstarbakerchallenge@gmail.com if you still have not received your acknowledgement email after the processing period.
11. I am an SCSDairy member. Am I allowed to submit for others using another name during submission?
Participants may only submit entries under their own name and SCS Dairy member account. All participants are required to register for their own account. Any submission found to have been made via proxy would be considered to be fraudulent and void.
12. How do I vote for my favourite participant to enter the finals?
Voting for finalists will be conducted after 4-Star challenge submission has ended. SCS will select compile the25 semi-finalist’s entries into a Facebook photo album. To vote for your favourite entrant, ‘like’ their entry in the SCS photo album. Each ‘like’ counts as one vote. Please note that only votes cast on the SCS photo album entry will be counted.

14. Is attending the final bake-off a paid event? How can I attend the SCS Star Baker Challenge2014 bake-off event?
The SCS Star Baker Challenge 2014final bake-off event is a non-chargeable private event. Attendance is strictly by invite only.
15. When will the winner be chosen?
The winner and runners-up will be chosen at the end of the SCS Star Baker Challenge 2014 final bake-off event.
16. What are the prizes for entering the SCS Star Baker Challenge 2014?
Participants of the SCS StarBaker Challenge 2014 are awarded a special certificate upon his/her completion of each difficulty challenge. There are 5 Star challenges in total.
In addition, the winner of the bake-off event at the end of the challenge will win an
all-expenses-paid luxury trip for two to Melbourne, Australia (worth $5,000),and three runners-up will all receive $1,000 worth of cooking/baking class vouchers for Palate Sensations culinary school.
17. Will the organiser be sponsoring the butter?
SCS will be sponsoring all the ingredients provided in the SCS Star Baker Challenge final bake-off event. All ingredients used by participants in the challenge phases leading up to the final
bake-off event are purchased by participants at their own cost.
SCS will be launching a loyalty programme in May 2014 to reward SCS Butter consumers. When you buy SCS Butter for your submissions, don’t forget to redeem your SCS Loyalty Points and redeem great SCS Loyalty Rewards!
