Rilakkuma Tofu

Made by Satonoyuki Foods, Rilakkuma “kinu” or silken tofu comes in packs of four 80g blocks, each one a little different and featuring the faces of Rilakkuma himself, cheeky youngling Korilakkuma, and bird pal Kiiroitori. They each cost 168 yen (US$1.60) for a pack.

While the flavour is no doubt fairly ordinary, the idea is that by adding a dash of soy sauce or pon-su, which are both typical accompaniments to the healthy bean-curd blocks, the bear’s face becomes clear to see, delighting adult fans and maybe – just maybe – convincing smaller kids to actually eat the stuff instead of demanding fried chicken with a side of M&Ms for every meal.

Since I’m on the topic of cute Rilakkuma items, here’s another ADORABLE item that I wish I could get my hands on!

Rilakkuma Sofa

A furniture maker in Japan, Fukuoka-based Okawa Kagu is offering Rilakkuma fans the chance to purchase an original order-made sofa based on their favourite po-faced bear – but with a price tag 197,400 yen (US$1,890).

As well as featuring the famous bear’s face and coming in just the right shade of brown, the hand-made sofa boasts super-soft cushions and even squeezable ears.

Orders for the couch yesterday, and will continue to do so until January 26 or the first 10 orders are filled, aiming to deliver the finished sofas in February or March this year.

And well, if you don’t like Rilakkuma, Sanrio also has these cute Hello Kitty / My Melody Sofas as well! D:

Hello Kitty / My Melody Sofa

Sanrio announced a sofa featuring Hello Kitty and her friend My Melody. Sanrio’s online shop is currently accepting orders on the furniture featuring the two popular characters. Each sofa is priced at 198,000 yen (US $2516) with an additional charge of 3,150 yen (US $40) for shipping. Both the Hello Kitty sofa and My Melody sofa feature the faces of Sanrio’s beloved characters designed into the back rest.

Each piece of furniture is handmade to order in Shizuoka prefecture.  Made out of stain-resistant, easy to clean material, these adorable sofas are also very comfortable.

The Hello Kitty sofa measures 126cm x 73cm x 88cm (50 in x 29 in x 35 in) and the seat of the chair is 34 cm (13 inches) off the ground.  The back of the My Melody sofa is only slightly higher at 96cm (38 inches).
