No matter how meticulously you try to pack, there’s still a high chance of leaving something important behind. While it’s true that you can just buy a replacement on your trip, you’ll end up spending quite a bit for such a simple oversight. Whether your skiing destination is in Hokkaido, Niseko, or Furano, you’ll need to make sure that you’ve packed all the essentials for a stress-free vacation.
5 Things You Need to Pack for Your Ski Trip in Japan!
Here are five important items that you should pack before you go skiing in Japan.
What You Absolutely Have to Bring:
- Sunscreen and Lip Balm
Sunburn is no joke, especially if you’re out in the middle of the snow. Make sure to apply an SPF 30 sunscreen on your face, ears, and neck every two hours to shield yourself from the sun’s UV rays. Don’t forget to apply an SPF 30 lip balm, either, as your lips are more likely to dry out while you’re out on the slopes.
- Thermal Clothing
Despite what some marketers may tell you, you can get by without buying overpriced skiing outfits. However, there are certain items that you won’t want to scrimp on. For example, you should get a few good pairs of snow socks instead of using ordinary ones. The latter won’t keep you warm enough in the incredibly cold weather. Other clothing items you’ll want to pack include a beanie, earmuffs, a neckwarmer, a ski jacket, ski pants, and snow boots.
- Accessories
You’ll need more than just thermals to get through your ski trip. You’ll also want to focus on getting a pair of good-quality shatterproof goggles, preferably with dark lenses to protect your eyes from the sun. You can’t go wrong with a great pair of waterproof, warm, and pliable gloves, either.
- Energy Bars
Yes, you can buy food at your destination, but you’ll be thankful to have something to nibble on while you’re wandering around an unfamiliar country. Plus, you can’t exactly ski at your best if your stomach is rumbling. Make sure to pack a couple of energy bars so that you can keep yourself from going hungry during your trip.
- Toiletries
Even if your hotel provides free shampoo, soap, conditioner, and toothpaste, you might find that they don’t have the quality you’re looking for. This is especially true if you have sensitive skin; you wouldn’t want to apply something onto your skin that you’ve never tried before. The last thing you want to deal with on the slopes is an allergy rash, so it’s best to bring your favorite brands instead. To save on space, transfer your toiletries to smaller containers. After all, you don’t need to bring liters of shampoo if you’re just staying at the resort for a few days.
But What About Skiing Gear?
If you already own some skiing gear, then there’s absolutely nothing wrong with bringing them along. However, if this is your first skiing trip ever, you might want to just rent some equipment instead. That way, you can get a pro to help you get an exact fit for your boots, skis, gloves, and other gear, too. Otherwise, you might end up spending a huge amount of money buying expensive skiing gear, only to find out that it’s just not your thing. Plus, bringing skiing gear around can be incredibly cumbersome, not to mention the additional baggage fees that you might have to pay for.
Don’t forget to bring these items along with you before you leave. By being more careful with your packing, you’ll be able to save yourself a lot of time and effort later on. Keep this list in mind the next time you start preparing for your next skiing trip to Japan. You’ll enjoy yourself a lot more knowing that you’ve already got everything you need.
