Day 3 of our Bangkok trip begins today and we are expecting it to be a sweaty hot day!

But first, morning bites of pandan waffles, shio pan and mushroom soup before hopping onto a Grab ride to Muek Mun Kai Chicken Rice หมึกมันไก่ ข้าวมันไก่สไตล์สิงคโปร์.

Ngl the reason why we came here is cos Alderic recommended during his Bangkok leg where he covered the best chicken rice series in Singapore and overseas.

So here we were, to try their chicken rice to see how good it is. They have 3 types of chicken – Singapore chicken rice, normal Thai boiled chicken and fried chicken cutlet. We opted to try the normal boiled chicken / combo of boiled chicken & fried chicken (single plates) with the rice.

First taste of rice = our chicken rice’s rice reigns supreme here. Nuff said. Its not bad but if you’re used to our Hainanese style chicken rice, the taste isn’t there imo!

For the chicken, the boiled one was really good. Very tender and moist, thumbs up! On the other hand – you can skip the fried chicken haha.

Their sauces are also rather different, especially the dark chicken rice sauce, while they had a few options of chillis. The chilli tastes slightly similar and its quite nice paired with the chicken options. Overall, not bad but we definitely prefered our Singapore version of the rice, soy sauce while their chicken is actually maybe mm on par or even better than many of the hawker stores hahaa cos its fatter/plumper/tender – I prefer this.

Next up, we took a quick grab to Central Ladprao to explore this mall. Tbh, mm nothing much and we only came here for drinks and desserts in the end.

• Coffee for the hubs at Beans Coffee Roasters, a chain you can find at most malls
• Charlee & Friends to try their iced cocoa. Not bad but not the type I’m looking for.
• The hubs can’t resist desserts from Ba Hao Tian Mi – Yaowarat ever since he tried it during our last trip to Bangkok. His favourite = the black sesame soup with taro. Excellent thick and gao black ssm with taro, recommended to try! I didn’t like their tofu pudding when I tried last year but this was nice.

And now, for the key highlight of this day = Chatuchak Weekend Market!

Our first surprise = getting these free milo bars lol and then my shopping spree begun. Also, we were quite prepared for today and the heat wearing hats, putting on sunscreen, uv jackets on, portable fans and etc..very essential to combat the heat even in the late afternoon. Fortunately for us, the sun wasn’t too intense so it was alright, better than expected.

Shopping here is great too. December’s wonderful for basics but Chatuchak is the place for linen basics, pretty floral dresses and more Thai designer outfits at affordable prices. Once again, I refused to pay more than 250 baht (S$10) for clothes and targeted at outfits below that price, which yes, are aplenty and can be found here! Snagged quite a few good deals and bought stuff that I MAY regret and never wear in the end. But aiya I rather buy now than regret that I didn’t lol.

Beyond shopping, Chatuchak is also great for cheap(er) souvenirs and snackies. While I was shopping, the hubs would usually disappear for abit and I would find him patronising a snack or drink stall nearby. We had quite a few things here – pork meatballs, coconut water, his fave squid eggs, my mooping, banana and egg roti and this fried mini shrimps fritters yums.

We also visited MIXT Mall where I took this nice ootd shots and they had plenty of anime/pokemon tcg cards to admire.

Central Rama 9 was our next stop after this as we wanted to visit the Siam Carnival Funfair, a pop up carnival open for the next 2 weeks.

The mall was quite big but because we impulsively booked a hair spa appointment later that night – the focus was to head to the fun fair, walk around and then head over to Asok. The funfair also had food and in the end we just ate some pizza, looked at the rides (nothing really interested us) and left after that for our appointment.

Hom Sleep Salon BTS Asok / MRT Sukhumvit was the one we impulsively booked at 8pm for a 10pm slot since this was one of the rare head spa options open till late (till 2am actually!). Appointments in advance are recommended and walk ins may be turned away as it is a very small space.

It wasn’t super cheap but one of the cheaper options in Bangkok at 890 baht for 1hr 15 mins of a Vietnamese style head spa.

Personally, I thought I enjoyed better ones but it did make me have a very restful sleep later on, and my hair felt fantastic and clean after a long day out of sweating etc.

We grabbed back after that, showered and immediately crashed once we got to bed.

It’s been a long but fun day.

What’s even better? The trip hasn’t even ended yet with 1 more last full day in Bangkok woohoo!!
