#OfficeDiaries: First Mooncake Of The Year x Fu Lin Bar and Restaurant @ Clarke Quay – 19 Sept 2023

OfficeDiaries First Mooncake Of The Year x Fu Lin Bar and Restaurant @ Clarke Quay - 19 Sept 2023

Hello Tuesday! It’s a lil busy day today in terms of work and personal stuff with an advanced birthday dinner that night with Xiaohui~

Think I ate too much during the day hence an excessive gain overnight (the next night)..which I’m not surprised considered that I had a heavy carb brekkie of noodles and all the unhealthy fried stuff hurhur. Also dropped by to visit Dr Huang during my lunch break and received my first mooncake gift for the year~ Couldn’t resist having an OJ from iJooz as well to feel slightly healthier hahaha!

Dinner awaits later at the newest outlet of Fu Lin Restaurant & Bar located at Clarke Quay. This is their SIXTH outlet, and having tried their food before in a previous tasting with the mister – I knew that we were in for a treat!

This particular outlet focuses more on an elevated Asian menu while adding more local sharing plates for more choices. Fans of Fu Lin can still expect the usual favourites including their famous fried yong tau foo (a 26 year old recipe!), XO carrot cake, etc so not to worry about that!

Live music and DJ performances are also something to look out for at their Clarke Quay outlet when you drop by from Tues – Saturday starting from 8.30pm. Whether you love to groove to English songs (every other day), or Mando/Canto songs (Thurs only), I’m sure you’ll be able to find the perfect day to head over. They also take music requests so prep a list or song dedication to surprise your friends :p

This is of course, best paired with their newly launched bespoke signature cocktails with an Asian flair conceptualised and crafted by a veteran master mixologist with over 20 years of experience. Flavours you should try include Bandung, Ondeh Ondeh, Pisang Goreng and more – a perfect way to unwind after a day of work with the awesome music as your backdrop!

Here’s what we enjoyed during the tasting that night 🙂

Starting off with appetizers and sides:

  • Hokkaido Bacon Scallops ($25) with caramelized apples and salad. This was one of my favourite dishes of the night cos the scallops were delicious, large and you can’t go wrong with bacon!
  • Crispy Pork Belly ($16), crunchy crispy pork belly with a nice thick sio bak fat cut served with mustard, you won’t be able to stop at just one piece!
  • Firecracker Chicken ($18) – perfectly fried chicken chunks with chilli flakes and peppercorn, this is a Sichuan dish that will spice up your tastebuds. Note that this is a really spicy dish so you’ve been warned!

Mains / Sharing Plates

  • Fu Lin Noodles ($7) minced chicken and mushroom gravy and silver fish – this is a MUST order as the perfect accompaniment to their yong tau foo!
  • Fried Yong Tau Foo ($14) mixed YTF with signature minced chicken and mushroom gravy – the piece de résistance at Fu Lin with their 26 year old recipe, great for sharing and surprisingly works as a bar bite with some cocktails / beer!
  • XO Carrot Cake ($15) – this is one of my favourite dishes that I would recommend as my second time eating it. Couldn’t resist scoffing down most of it by myself!
  • Cold Pasta Ikura ($24) with salmon roe and truffle essence – a highly recommended main dish that can be considered as an appetizer as well as it’s a cold dish.
  • Not forgetting to round it all off with their mochi dessert ($7), essentially muachee with a dash of coconut bits!

Be sure to not miss out on their drinks selections especially the Taste of Singapore cocktails.

  • Kampong Spirit ($28) – Roku, gin, cucumber and a sweet & sour mixer. Xh had this and I tried it, not bad!
  • Chinchow Lemongrass ($28) – rum peach liqueur with Lemongrass syrup and grass jelly, this is a drink totally up my alley as it’s rather sweet and I love the grass jelly bits!

Overall, we definitely enjoyed our time here at Fu Lin Bar & Restaurant, albeit leaving with a VERY stuffed tummy from an overload of food. That was wayyy too much for two girls to finish and best to come in a big group with guys to polish off all that yummy food over drinks and great music to end off your night right!

Thanks Fu Lin Bar & Restaurant for having us! 🙂
