Hooray to the weekends and it’s my first one in Singapore after almost two weeks in Brisbane. Have you read my previous travelogue?

Coming back as well means there are loads of errands to run and things to do over the weekend especially since we got engaged, and my birthday is in two days!

First up for the day, I was lucky to receive a media invite for a lunch tasting at the newly opened omakase restaurant, Tomidou Singapore located at One Nassim.

Their lunch omakase pricing starts from $150, Sakura for 10 dishes, with Taiyo as the next tier priced at $300 for 14 dishes while the dinner omakase menu starts from $400, Tsuki with 15 dishes and $500 for Tomidou with an impressive 19 dishes.

For the purpose of this tasting, we were treated to their Sakura omakase at $150 per pax and you can expect an exquisite omakase course featuring premium seasonal ingredients air flown directly from renowned Japanese fish markets and helmed by Chef Akira Horikawa from Japan.

Fun fact: Chef Akira Horikawa has 15 years of experience at Ginza Kyubey – one of the most renowned omakase restaurants in the world vsiited by famous presidents and celebrities alike.

Do note that the dishes served may differ slightly from your menu because as an omakase affair; the choices will be varied based on seasons, and dependent on the chef.

However what stays the same will be their signature chawanmushi and maybe the miso soup. The rest will be highly dependent daily especially with regards to the lunch sushi and dessert.

Service is very attentive and personalized from the start to the end with your choice of the 13-seater sushi counter; or VIP rooms (min spending applies). I love the care and thought put into every element of the restaurant – the elegant contemporary touches of the interiors and even the toilets, to all the tableware, dishes and glasses (spot the Mt Fuji mountain within!) where you feel yourself whisked into Japan.

Oh yes, please also state your allergies and preferences so that the chef can cater for any special needs e.g no wasabi, or certain items that you don’t enjoy/take so that you do not spoil your enjoyment of the dish.

Reservations are required for dinner, while lunch reservations are highly recommended (limited walk-ins are also accepted) in two seatings. They are also precise in your timing, it will take around 1 hour 15 mins to finish your lunch course, and 2 hours for dinner so there are no surprises here when you dine at Tomidou Singapore.

For a sneak peek, here’s what we enjoyed in this 10 course omakase:

  • Chawamushi: Made with cream, milk and two types of cheese from Italy and Switzerland. This is paired with rice and it was a really savoury dish.
  • Nigiri: Bluefin tuna, pompano, silver promfret butter fish, akami, horse mackerel – a few unique options from the usual and of course, these are all premium Japanese fishes
  • Miso soup with water lily – my first time trying and it was delicious.
  • Chirashi don with two types of uni, ikura and hairy crab – it was an indulgent affair that we loved!
  • Mini tamago (egg) and prawn paste nigiri served with two types of anago nigiri and pickled eggplant – I appreciate how lovely the anago was and how cute the sweet tamago nigiri was.
  • Seasonal Fruits Bowl – the perfect way to end off this tasting on a light and refreshing note, with the sweetest seasonal fruits that I really really enjoyed

Overall, we had a wonderful time here at Tomidou Singapore and it was a highlight for us this weekend to kickstart my birthday celebration right!

Moving on, it’s back to reality and loads of errands running and things to do. This includes heading over to JannPaul to view wedding bands, UOB to set up our joint account now that we’re engaged and loads of expenses coming our way .. to Refash to drop off my old clothes for some money back .. City Square Mall to pick up some winnings and Donki dinner.

And finally, we were back home to chill with dinner, Netflix and more slack cos that’s how a weekend should be!
