A very early good morning to you as we woke up bright and early to take the 730am bus ride to KL as part of the misters surprise birthday getaway!
Got ourselves fuelled up and all that before we boarded our coach ride for a long ride to KL via Star Mart Express. Just note that it usually does not include any pitstop at Yong Peng and it’s a direct drive all the way to KL with just one toilet break. As long as you are well aware of all that, it should be a smooth ride for you.

We pulled into KL around 6 hours+ later at Berjaya Time Square and promptly headed opposite to Melia KL where we were booked for two nights.
Unfortunately, as I booked on Trip.com, the accommodation option given to me was two twin beds which I wrote in to the hotel to request for a double and it wasn’t available. Had to pay for an upgrade of 100 MYR per night for their executive room (with no perks) which I wasn’t too pleased about. But well, it was the misters birthday so.. 算了.

Just a note as well that they do not provide any birthday services eg complimentary birthday cakes (chargable at 18MYR)/upgrades so just take note if you’re booking this hotel in advance.
Moving on, we headed out to explore the surrounding area of Sungei Wang Plaza, Lot 10 Hutong and Pavilion area since it was within the vicinity. Managed to see a cosplay event held during that weekend and it was kinda cool to see quite a number of cosplayers all dressed up.

We also made a detour to the famous Wong Ah Wah Restaurant in between for an early dinner of their famous chicken wings paired with pork noodles. The tip to avoid the queues and long waiting time that can be up to an hour is to come early like we did (around 5pm+) and your food would be served out pretty swiftly after ordering. The chicken wings were good, pork noodles not bad though rather greasy/oily. Otherwise, it was a good meal.

This was later followed up with dessert of a chocolate pistachio ice cream chimney cake from Rollney which I’ve always wanted to try – and it was delicious. Good for sharing between two people as it can be a heavy meal.

Not forgetting to pick up a small cake for the misters birthday from Australia Cake House that has an outlet at Pavilion. You can easily get a small ring cake (sharable between 1-2 pax) for around 15 MYR, or splurge a little more for their durian version which costs a little more.

Afterwhich, we hopped onto the monorail back to Imbi station where our hotel was located to drop off some of our shopping loots before heading over to a newly opened Japanese lifestyle shopping centre called Lalaport located behind Berjaya Times Square.
And the reason for that is to catch the giant inflatable Luffy blowup that is used to promote the current One Piece “The Great Era of Piracy” Exhibition Asia Tour taking place at Genting for this pit stop for a limited period of time. Of course, I already bought tickets to the exhibition then, just that the mister didn’t know .. yet

.. till that very night where we celebrated with the cake and his presents and he was so surprised with the arrangements made!
Afterall, birthdays only happen once a year and since he also hit a mini milestone age, plus he is a super huge One Piece fan = it was a no brainer for me to put everything together on this trip.
