mitsueki travels japan 2022 day 2

Hello from Tokyo this bright and early morning! We’re all packed and ready to leave Tokyo for a long train ride to Osaka using our JR Hokuriku Arch Pass which we exchanged for seats yesterday afternoon after we landed.

Read Day 1 here if you haven’t yet!

Remember to always factor buffer time for your luggage and buying brekkie / lunch like us onboard the train since you can eat there. However not to worry if you are rushing for time as usually there will be a convenience store at the platform itself for you to grab some food.

All aboard for the first leg of our journey – a two hour train ride from Tokyo to Kanazawa first with our yummy brekkie onboard. The scenery changed from the city skyline to mountains and the sea ..

.. and a quick stop at Kanzawa Station where there was a massive snow storm where I saw snow for the first time!

Time to board our second two hour train ride from Kanazawa to Osaka via the Thunderbird coupled with lunch onboard which we bought earlier that morning. The scenery also changed from snowy to your regular Japanese city scene as we pulled into Osaka Station.

Welcome to Osaka and our hotel stay for this trip – Hotel UNIZO Osaka Umeda for the next 4 nights as we made it our base here for the Osaka leg of this trip! The room was slightly bigger than our previous room, however still cramped but cozy and comfortable. Would recommend if you plan to stay in the Umeda area like us!

The first order of business after putting down our luggages and doing the necessary – it’s off to our first stop of the day to Kuromon Market for a super late lunch / early dinner? They close at 5pm and we reached around ~430pm where a number of shops were already closed. However, there were still stores that were open after 5, and for dinner as well so you don’t have to worry too much. Coming here later also means being able to grab some fresh seafood for up to 50% off at some stores!

From there on..it was just eating and eating for the rest of the time starting off with an otoro sushi (3000 yen) from the famous Kurogin Tuna Store and the boss even gave us a free slice of aburi tuna!

Next stop – to try fresh pufferfish sashimi, something that has been on our bucket list to try for the longest time. We managed to get a plate for 1000 yen and it was worth a try in a safe environment cos consuming it can be dangerous!

The food doesn’t stop here cos what we had were just the appetizer! What we had next was the famous Jiyuken curry and Osaka is the only place in Japan where you can get this super unique curry that is mixed together with an egg! To eat, you just have add abit of their special sauce on top of their egg and then mix it all together in a beautiful wet mess. Do note that their curry is a little more spicy compared to the usual Japanese standard of curry.

A minimum order of one item (at least 310 yen each) is also required per diner bere! We had the fried shrimp paired with the curry rice to share between both of us and it was a good, hearty dinner that I’ll definitely come back for in the future again!

We strolled along to Namba area where the mister wanted to get his hands on the newly launched Kani (crab) ice cream from the famous crab store. Not bad and the flavour actually works together. It also comes with real crab meat!

Being in the cold also makes us crave for hot food and we satisfied that craving with Kobe beef soup from this random seller. Finally, we had to have takoyaki from Aicchichi Honpo at Dotonburi before snapping a photo at the famous Glico running man before leaving the place to head back to Umeda.

Sadly, the Pokemon store was already closed by the time we figured out where it was. However, he managed to visit the Casetify store, view the Harry Potter Xmas tree, explore the Umeda area and shop at Ikari supermarket/Family Mart before calling a day cos an early morning awaits us tomorrow~

Where will we be going and what will we be doing? You gotta stay tuned to the next post to find out more! 🙂
