#MitsuekiTravels: 2D1N Johor Getaway at St Giles Southkey Hotel @ The Mall, Mid Valley Southkey – 13 Nov 2022

Good morning! It feels like an event day cos we are super awake at 530am for Randy’s friend to come pick us up around 6am from my place for a short getaway to JB! With that being said, if you head into JB at around 7am, you should be able to get in pretty fast as the traffic is rather smooth, albeit with a tiny jam.

We were early enough to head over to Hiap Joo to pick up a box of their famous banana cake at 730am. So a quick tip, even though Google states that they close on Sunday, they are actually open at 730am and will sell till sold out, which should be pretty early.

Our next stop is to Restoran Kak Kak for a dimsum brekkie that was recommended by his friends. They only have a limited number of dimsum items (both steamed/fried), but if you’re in a big group of friends – generally you should be able to try out most of them. Their har gao is good, and I liked a couple of them. Only the char Siew bao isn’t to my liking, but the rest were alright.

We were quite early prior to check in, so it’s time to chillax around, put the kids into the play area before walking around till lunch time.

Here’s our lunch together with the full group at Sukiya! Sadly, I think the food isn’t up to standard in my opinion, though still okay. Rather bland compared to Singapore, much less compared to the Japan ones.

Then finally we could do our check in into the hotel, St Giles Southkey Hotel at Midvalley where all of us booked a room for an overnight stay. This is a rather new hotel and it has a number of facilities including a pool, gym and complimentary buffet breakfast for slightly less than S$100 located right within Mid Valley Mall so it makes shopping really convenient.

For those who had a prior appointment at the Shi-Ba Cafe over at Mt Austin gathered after a quick nap to head over in advance. Reservations are needed prior to attending and, for bigger groups more than 5 people, you’ll need to make payment in advance too. Each ticket will allow you to unlimited refills of drinks and an hour to play around with the doggos at the Shi-Ba cafe!

And play we did with all of the doggos available ranging from shiba inu puppies to adult size dogs, an akita, two huskies and even a pug. You’ll have a great time there, and you can even pick up some of the puppies to carry!

We ended off the night with an early seafood dinner with the whole group at Senibong Bay Seafood. What a feast, and it was my first time dining at such a big table with 17 people including children! A fun experience overall and goodness were we full!

And that’s the end of our Day 1 getaway to Mid Valley Southkey. Thanks for reading!
