Good morning~ Now with our negative ART tests cleared – this means we are all good to go for our long awaited anniversary cruise onboard the Royal Caribbean, Spectrum of The Seas!
With our previous cruise experience under our belt just last year, we were relatively quite experienced in terms of prepping and knowing what to expect beforehand. Our recommendation is to get on the earliest boarding/check in time (11am) and it’s a really fast process from there to get onboard the ship.
Within less than 30 minutes or so from arrival, we were done with immigration and poof, headed to board the ship proper. Of course, it does help that we have Sky Suites privileges so this meant that we had priority boarding etc as well!
Fortunately for us at the Sky Suites, there was also priority check in so our rooms were already ready the moment we boarded – welcome to our Golden Junior Suite Room onboard!
This was an unexpected upgrade as our original room was the Golden Balcony but the mister managed to get the RoyalUp bid successfully and surprised me with this upgraded room yay!
Coming in, you can tell that the room is huge like a regular hotel room. Compared to our previous balcony stateroom, this was definitely much bigger and spacious. Added to that, we also have a bathtub and shower in one area, and the toilet in another room! The balcony area is also much bigger fitting up to 3 lounge chairs!
Staying in the Sky Class suites also unlocks a large number of extra privileges and extra amenities including a welcome fruit platter, Evian water, plenty of bottled water, Welcome platter of cookies, a coffee machine, branded soap, shampoo and all the amenities, pillow selection and many more on top of the usual fridge, bigger TV, plenty of wardrobe space and more.
Our first stop onboard was to head over to the Gold Dining Room, also only accessible to Sky Suites guests and a few other tier groups. Essentially it’s a private dining space similar to My Dining Room (MDR), but more exclusive with a dedicated concierge and a higher ratio of servers to guests = alot more attentive service.
Here’s what we had for lunch from their fixed menu – scallop, duck, codfish, steak sandwich before rounding it off with a selection of desserts. What a lovely way to start off our cruise right on a high note!
With plenty of time to chill, we took this opportunity to explore the ship which was almost 80% similar to Quantum of the Seas, with a few different changes especially if you have access to the Sky Suites and etc. This includes entry to the reserved areas in the Solarium and more.
Meanwhile, here’s a quick look at the other areas of the ship which we were quite familiar with at this moment. Again, the key differences were some new restaurants, and design elements compared to the previous ship.
After that, it was time for us to participate in some of the ship’s activities including the SkyPad where we were stepped into this bungee looking jump thing and bounce on the trampoline like pad. Sadly, the VR function wasn’t in operation so you’ll just be bouncing up and down. You do get 2x free turns on this (reservations required) so make sure to use it!
We also tried out the FlowRider experience which is something we missed out on during the last trip as I was on my period previously. It was quite fun, albeit a long queue and I crashed into the end at least three times. Overall, it was still fun and a free activity that you can do onboard.
Finally, we rounded our activities with a soak in the hot tubs located around the pool desk, and then the solarium. The latter is much warmer and more private if there’s space. Very fun and relaxing to chill!
With all that, it’s time for dinner once again at the Gold Dining Room where we enjoyed a selection of escargots (ordered from the main dining room), venison carpaccio, tuna tartare, a lobster broth, steak for the mister and duck confit for me before rounding it off with desserts once again for a very full meal!
We came back to our room where our room attendant prepared a turndown service for us and a cute towel art.
However, our night doesn’t end here as we were attending our first silent disco at Two70, one of the venues onboard the ship with their resident DJ. This means plenty of dancing, head bobbing, off-tune singing and all that while most of us shuffle awkwardly on the floor. To outsiders viewing without the headphones, I think it’ll be a hilarious view.
Overall, it has been a fun Day 1 onboard the cruise today and I’m looking forward to the rest of the cruise trip! Come back tml to read Day 2 on the blog okay?
