18/12 Chronicles of a Typical Office Lady in Singapore

Hohoho. Today is definitely not like every other day in your usual Chronicles of a Typical Office Lady in Singapore!

For one – it’s an early Christmas themed lunch with a big ol’ BBQ turkey leg that I got from Cold Storage.. paired with nuts, grapes and cranberries and romaine all nicely tossed together for a fulfilling meal!

The Turkey leg was huge AF fyi as you can tell 😂

What’s different today is that.. 今天我离家出走.

Basically, checking myself in for a solo treat yo self end year staycation / workcation at The Quay Hotel just for kicks.

Here’s my room review/room tour of the Single room (no window) which I booked.

Simple and no frills, but comfortable. Loved how plush the bed was – I’ve missed sleeping in a hotel bed hahaha!

The room is small lah, but has everything you need.

Loads of power plugs all around. Small wardrobe area to hang your clothes with a small storage area that comes with a mini fridge, kettle and some complimentary coffee/tea sachets, a mini mirror and a bottle of water.

There’s a nice big flat screen TV with a small workdesk in front. Just pull out the little chair to be able to work in comfort, though yes, it’s quite squeezy. Good for one.

The bathroom is no frills but still nice and clean. Bonus points for the bedroom slippers.

Some basic toiletries are included as well as hand soap/shower gel/shampoo while your shower option includes the shower wand or an overhead rain shower. The water pressure however, isn’t the best but acceptable.

In a nutshell, here are the pros and cons summed up for you nicely:

Pros:

  • Comfortable bed, no frills facilities and everything you need.
  • Loads of power plugs in the room.
  • Relative fast check in and check out.
  • Dining promos around the vicinity if you flash your hotel card.
  • Bus stop right in front of the hotel.
  • 7-11 outlet next door and plenty all around + 24 hour mini marts. There’s also a 24 hour McDonalds down the road.
  • Many ClassPass options around
  • ALOT of good food all around the vicinity
  • Quiet at night, conducive for a peaceful night rest

Cons:

  • The very noisy housekeeping call at 930am and walls are thin so you can hear them vacuuming in the morning waking you up. Not conducive if you’re looking to sleep in.
  • No breakfast during the COVID-19 period.
  • Limited facilities = rooftop garden can’t be accessed during COVID-19 period.

I also did a video room tour here:

Unfortunately I was super caught up with work so I only checked in at 5pm plus..super not worth it as I only had time to check in, dump my things, do a slight bit more of work before moving to my next appointment at ..

Cat Cafe Neko no Niwa at Boat Quay (around 5 mins walk away!).

I made a prior appointment at 6pm using Klook (sign up HERE to get a $5 discount!) to get a discount so I only paid $10 for an hour pass.

Friday evenings are generally pretty crowded and reservations are required if I’m not wrong.

Still, I enjoyed myself there for the one hour – patted some cats, did some work and had a leisurely good time before heading back to my hotel once again for some work (lol) and then a dinner appointment with Styles!

Dinner was decided to be at Legendary Bak Kut Teh located slightly opposite my hotel, very convenient.

I chose it cos I’ve never tried Legendary and figured, might as well la. Song Fa Bak Kut Teh is just a stone’s throw away as well.

And you know what?

I was impressed with the price point and serving portion at Legendary!

For only $10++, you get one BKT option (I chose lean meat) with refillable soup, a choice of side (we chose salted vegetables and tau kee respectively) as well as a drink!

Oh we added you tiao as well just because!

Good company and lovely food – it was a great night!

Making good on our promise to Leonard, we made our way to Dopa Dopa Creamery located RIGHT opposite Legendary BKT but sadly, he wasn’t there!

No issues = ice cream saves the day and the pistachio flavor was as amazing as I remembered 🙂

Back to my room for that much needed respite – it’s time to tuck in with a good book to end off my day right.

Looking forward to tomorrow and thanks always for reading / watching my vlog! ^^
