Hotel Review: ibis Hotel Kuala Lumpur City Centre (ibis KLCC)

I’ve stayed in an ibis property (the ibis Paris Gare du Nord) during my Europe trip back in 2015 and have always associated it with a no-frills and value for money hotel all this while!

However, my recent weekend staycation experience with ibis Kuala Lumpur City Centre has changed my perspective as this flagship ibis Grand property is more upscale compared to the usual ibis properties! Well, this comes as no surprise, considering that this property is considered a 4 Star hotel!

In fact, this particular ibis is the LARGEST ibis Grand property in Asia Pacific (as of this date of writing, 24 March 2019) with 684 rooms and a huge array of facilities and amenities great for both leisure and business travelers – BUT with the same value-for-money price point!

Location

ibis Kuala Lumpur City Centre is located at an up and coming residential district in Kuala Lumpur at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng right at the heart of KL and within walking distance to Petronas Twin Towers, Suria KLCC, KLCC LRT station and many other places of interest.

You can book through the official website to rack up your Le AccorHotel points or book through Booking.com using my referral link HERE to enjoy a S$40 refund on your credit card!*

*Min $80 stay, limit to 1 cc per usage. Refund is done 30-60 business days after your stay is completed.

Ideally however, I would recommend taking a Grab everywhere as its more convenient and perhaps safer instead of walking! It’s around 7 MYR for a ride to Suria KLCC!(:

Alternatively, you can avail yourself to the complimentary shuttle bus available for hotel guests at selected departure timing to the following locations!

Personally, I did like the location as it was away from the usual hustle and bustle of the city with a nice quiet ambiance.

Parking at the hotel is free by the way.

Lobby

Entering the lobby for the first time felt like I was stepping into any full fledged large scale hotel rather than an ibis property. It was rather impressive and the design, very warm and welcoming thanks to the colors and use of wood all around.

The lounge area is very modern and inviting, making it a lovely place to chill! To be honest, the lobby actually reminds me of a co-working space more anything and digital nomads or digital savvy people will appreciate the powerpoints and plenty of space to work at!

I also do appreciate the welcome drinks available for all guests!

Checking in is at the counter area and as ibis Hotel is under Accor Hotels and there is a separate queue for Le Club AccorHotels members as seen in the photo!

Signing up as a member in the loyalty program is free by the way so I highly recommend you do so!(:

Room Types

There are three types of rooms available at ibis Kuala Lumpur City Centre:

Standard Room (20 sqm)

The standard room comes with a choice of twin or double beds! A triple bed option can be accommodated upon request as well.

Standard Room with City View (20 sqm)

Same as the above but with a view of the city! It’s called the corner room and there are only a few rooms on every level that has the city view! This is also the room that I was staying in for my 3D2N staycation!

Deluxe Room (30 sqm)

The deluxe room is something unique as there is an extra single bed (Japanese tatami style) sleeping up to 4 persons in the same room! Would think this is actually good for children don’t you think so?

In-Depth Room Tour

As mentioned earlier, I was allocated the Standard Room With City View for my staycation experience and this was essentially the best room available at ibis KLCC!

I walked into a beautiful room with plenty of sunshine and a great view and was greeted with these “towel swans” forming a heart shape on top of the signature ibis “Sweet Bed” the moment I entered.

All I can say is that the room space is definitely bigger than I expected!

The wardrobe is an open concept style with no doors so that it can fit everything nicely.

At one look, you can see a fridge, safety deposit box, hanger area for clothes, an ironing board and iron, bedroom slippers and an extra pillow for comfort if necessary.

Complimentary coffee, tea and two bottles of water are also provided alongside with a kettle and two cups.

I really like the workdesk area because of that magnificent view that I’m facing.

More importantly, the free Wi-Fi is great and super stable throughout my trip so I was able to get quite a bit of work done and videos uploaded throughout my stay. No spotty Wi-Fi signal at all!

A small table is available next to it for you to place your luggage on.

The view from my window however, is absolutely stunning – a city view worth paying for and you can even see the Twin Towers from my room! The windows are double glazed by the way, so you can be assured of a sound sleep even in the city area!

There is also a 40 inch flat screen TV available in all the rooms but I didn’t watch any TV on it. Channels are quite limited but sufficient – however, I was spending my time generally just writing and working I guess. Ain’t got no time for trivial matters like watching TV on a work trip!

I specially liked the full length mirror and this is always something I appreciate in all my hotel rooms as I usually travel solo nowadays and this allows me to take my ootds! So hello mirror ootd!

I also need to mention about the numerous international power sockets located all around the room – they are absolutely useful for digital natives like myself and you don’t need to worry about bringing a travel adaptor! However, there is only one USB charger port!

Master switches and all light switches except for the toilet lights are also located on both sides of the bed so you don’t have to roll out of bed to switch them off!

Finally, we come to the bathroom to end off this room tour portion of this post!

The bathroom is great! Very modern and futuristic feel thanks to the lighted LED mirror and it has everything you need!

Toilet, tissue, quality towels (two bath towels, two hand towel and a floor towel) and other useful amenities including cups, toothbrush and toothpaste, shower cap, sanitary bag, cotton buds and a bar soap.

Can’t forget that hair dryer too!

Meanwhile, for the shower – there is no bathtub but you do have the option of a handheld shower wand or the overhead rain shower depending on your preference.

The water pressure is good and pretty strong and you can adjust the shower head if you are using the shower wand by twisting the knob. However, it did take awhile for the warm water to heat up so do take note.

Other than that, there is a two in one soap and shampoo provided for use. However, if you have slightly sensitive scalp/skin or prefer to use branded shower amenities – then I do recommend bringing your own or buy from the supermarket(:

Room Rate

The room rate for a typical standard room for 2 including a buffet breakfast starts from S$85 per night which is very affordable considering the location and amenities.

You can book through the official website to rack up your Le AccorHotel points or book through Booking.com using my referral link HERE to enjoy a S$40 refund on your credit card!*

Service

Throughout my 3D2N stay at ibis KLCC, one thing I have to commend is their hospitality from most of the service staff. It’s not because I was a media guest but this is commonplace for all guests! Was greeted with smiles from most of the staff – be it at the counter to the room service attendants, waiters and more!

I also noticed that most of the staff at ibis KLCC are very young or at least my age group or so and apparently, that’s the young image the brand is trying to portray at this property. Interesting to note(:

Meeting Rooms (Level 11)

As this is a hotel catered for both leisure and business guests, there are plenty of meeting rooms useful for different purposes be it a business conference, an event set-up, wedding banquet or even something fun, like a birthday party!

I had a peek at some of the meeting room set ups and you can see them as below!

My favourite meeting room will be this particular one with plenty of natural sunlight and that amazing view!

To share something fun – they also provide a high quality karaoke system for all their meeting rooms so you can sing your heart out in any of the rooms!

Dining Options

In terms of dining options within the hotel, there are three as follows:

Kampung Kitchen Restaurant (Level 10)

This is the main restaurant in the hotel which can seat up to 400 pax at one seating! It’s open for buffet breakfast from 6.30am – 10.30am and an ala-carte basis for lunch (12pm-2.30pm) and a buffet dinner (6pm-10pm)!

There’s also a lovely high tea buffet that happens from 12-4pm available on weekends and public holidays at a very affordable price of 68 nett MYR per person and kids below 10 eat for free! Very worth it – you can read about my high tea buffet experience in my travelogue HERE!

Again, the views are amazing thanks to the floor to ceiling windows!

Petite Paris Cafe (Lobby)

There is a mini cafe called Petite Paris Cafe located at the hotel lobby open from 8am to 12 midnight and they sell an array of pastries and beverages including coffee, tea, ice blended and such as seen from the menu below!

They also have a small section selling snacks and useful essentials for hotel guests at pocket friendly prices.

Note that there is no convenience store nearby the hotel nor is there room service at ibis KLCC, so if you are hungry or need to grab something urgent or a mini bite – this will be your best bet!

Champion Sports Bar (Level 31)

Champion Sports Bar located at Level 31 is also one option for dining and late night entertainment at Hotel ibis Kuala Lumpur!

They serve bar bites and food at pretty pocket friendly prices as seen from the menu.

However, their biggest draw is definitely buy 1 free 1 happy hour promotion going from 4-10pm! That’s 22 MYR (S$7.50) for 2 pints of Guinness, imagine that?!

Moreover, there is also a live mic session from 4pm all the way to midnight so feel free to belt out some tunes in front of the crowd or your friends!

The space is really nice and conducive as a hangout place whether in the afternoon or at night.

This is also the BEST spot at ibis KLCC to snap a photo of the Petronas Twin Towers whether during the day or at night as seen from my pictures below!

Other than these 3 restaurants located within the hotel, there are a couple of other restaurants located within the same vicinity.

Not many though as this is a quiet residential strip more than anything. Just take a Grab down, walk or avail yourself to the complimentary shuttle to get to the nearest mall! Or you can always “tabao”, do a takeaway back to your hotel after you’re done with your sightseeing.

Infinity Pool (Level 31)

Now if you feel like hitting the pool, you’ll be surprised to know that ibis KLCC has an infinity pool on this property open from 7am to 10pm with an amazing view as always!

I was able to snap a photo of it during my hotel tour but I didn’t make use of this facility even though I brought my swimming costume!

For your reference, this is the BEST Instaworthy shot in the hotel – BUT you have to take it from the other end of the pool in order to snap the following envy-inducing Instagram shots such as these:

So if you want to up your Instagram game at ibis KLCC – now you know where to go! All the images are credited to the original posters by the way!

Skyview Gym (Level 31)

What I really appreciate the most is the 24 hour gym and I found myself hitting the gym on Day 2 of my staycation! Note that this is only available for hotel guests and you need your room card to gain access to the gym!

It’s not the biggest gym but it is functionable and has all the equipment you might need for a quick or simple workout to shed some calories or maintain your physique during your stay at ibis KLCC!

Couple that with a breathtaking view of Kuala Lumpur while you go about doing your exercise is definitely a great bonus!

Free face towels and water is provided for guests as well!

The AsiaSpa (Level 31)

Lastly, if you are looking to relax and unwind at ibis KLCC – you will find your answer at The AsiaSpa, also located at Level 31 which provides an award-winning spa experience for all their guests with a comprehensive range of spa treatments and therapies!

You can refer to some of the spa treatments as below:

As an additional bonus, ibis hotel guests will enjoy a 20% discount off their usual rates!

I was fortunate enough to be able to experience one of their aromatherapy sessions for 90 minutes and it was an enjoyable experience!

You can read about my experience on the second day of my weekend staycation with ibis KLCC in this post HERE!

In a Nutshell

As you can tell, I had a really good time enjoying the facilities of the hotel fully as seen from my corresponding travelogues and vlogs!

One Commnet on “Hotel Review: ibis Hotel Kuala Lumpur City Centre (ibis KLCC)

  1. Love how the natural light is flowing into the room. And it’s definitely a bonus to be able to view the iconic landmark right from the hotel room. 😉 Almost wanted to book this in my recent stay. Maybe next time. Thanks for the informative review. 🙂
