Since the start of the year, I set a resolution to travel OR have a staycation every single month for 2018 and having said that – I’m proud to announce that this is finally done and dusted for 2018 with this last staycation day in December!
Honestly it’s not easy to be able to keep up this resolution especially at this point of time (in terms of finances + time + work) but if the is a will, there’s a way 🙂 Plus I’m really lucky that I still have some leftover Airbnb credits to offset my stay so that’s a huge bonus to me!(:
Having traveled frequently over the last few months, the experience has primed me to know what to pack for my short trips or 1 night getaways like these so I pretty much just packed on the day of my staycation date lol. Just pack light and slackish cos you’re technically still in Singapore.
Grateful to my mom as well for her homecooked meals over the weekend and for so much more 🙂
Hehe and I’m putting my Lock N Lock container to good use all the time now! Portioning my food and bringing my own food for my staycation cos finances are tight and such!
And then I was all packed and ready for my staycation!(:
My final staycation place for the year 2018 was at Reddoorz Marine Parade! It’s a new chain of budget hotel accommodation available in Singapore if I’m wrong and you can book it off either Booking.com or Airbnb like what I did.
Don’t forget about my existing lobang that you can make use of to offset your stay!

Fyi, this particular hotel was once known as The Peranakan Hotel but has seen then been rebranded under the Reddoorz chain (probably a bought over?).
I paid $90.32 for a 1N stay for their basic room (offset using Airbnb credits)! It’s quite affordable especially if you are sharing the room but for a solo traveller where I have to pay the full amount, every cent kinda counts in a way.
It’s WORTH IT cos I’m a huge huge fan of solo travel at this moment. Yeah you don’t have to cater to anyone except yourself and that’s the fun part 🙂
Checking in was easy and smooth. Done within less than 5 minutes and I got hold of my room key!
It’s a no frills place so no breakfast is provided. However, what I liked was that there was a $10 nett breakfast voucher where you can redeem at Penny University just next door.
That’s pretty affordable considering cafe prices in Singapore can be rather expensive 🙂 Not sure what it entails cos I didn’t take it up!
Only two levels to this hotel but luckily there’s a lift just right next to the reception so it’s pretty convenient if you have luggage!
Checked into my room and errr I realized that I was given the Twin room with two beds instead of the Double that I was expecting.
I did check with the receptionist if I could change my room to a Double but they were fully booked so..k, suck it up lor. I eventually did check my booking and I booked a Double actually, but okay la, I’m quite flexible and they were already fully booked so I just took it.
Claimed this side of the room next to the window 🙂
And the other bed? For my chapalang stuff and luggage.
For a budget hotel like this, I was quite surprised at the level of amenities provided that is inclusive in the price. Essentially, the room has literally everything you need!
- Complimentary water
- Free coffee and tea
- Cups
- Kettle
- TV
- Hangers
- Air conditioning
- No full length mirror but the mirror suffices for a fun selfie hehe.
Individual amenities kit provided to every single guest
Hotel quality fluffy towels
Firm and soft pillow choices. And I gotta say that the bed is very soft and comfy as well.
To me, the hotel is just missing four things (what I can think of at the top of my head that is) imo: hair dryer / dustbin in the room / a box of tissue paper / a small table (but I understand the space constraints in the room) 🙂
Fyi, the toilet is small and basic but again, has everything you need – a shower with shampoo and body soap provided as well as towels and the like.
No in house room service is provided but they partnered with the Deliveroo delivery platform where you can order “room service” from the restaurants directly to your hotel room. Very smart no?
But on the whole, consider me impressed for the price(:
And in case you were wondering what I was doing my staycation.. well – working is my answer haha. In fact, I stayed in my room all the way cos I’ve got food, water and my own work to entertain me. Note that I would have loved to head out to explore the place but eh, client work comes first also la 🙂
Regardless, I’m glad I can bring my work to work remotely from where I am, all I need is WiFi actually cos I either do my writing on my phone or my laptop. The majority is done on the former but the latter is for more serious work when I’m engaged by clients, scheduling and podcasting.
Really would like to invest to upgrade to a Pixelbook really really badly but not yet! Perhaps when the finances are in a better condition next year or smth then I’ll relook into it(:
That aside, so yeah that’s basically what I did after checking in: write for the blog / work on an upcoming advertorial / scheduling and recording a quick podcast (poetry reading)!
And also..shake leg and chill abit la. Yeah I’m a workaholic but I also like to chill. In fact, if I could nua my whole life..I would like to do so 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
But I can’t. Not yet at least. x 😊
Thanks always for reading!
