Trying out Hokkaido Soup Curry at SAMA Curry & Cafe – the 1st and ONLY Japanese Soup Curry restaurant in Singapore!

Think of Japanese curry and the usual comes to mind – a rich, thick Japanese curry smothered over Japanese rice and served with a fried slab of cutlet right?

Well, that’s also pretty boring after awhile because its so conventional! Instead, why not give Hokkaido style soup curry a go? As of now, SAMA Curry & Cafe is the ONLY restaurant in Singapore that serves Japanese soup curry and you can check out their outlets at Plaza Singapura and OUE Downtown!

I popped by their latest outlet at Plaza Singapura hidden away at Level 6 (next to Kopitiam) to try out their soup curry and was really excited about my visit! Brought Sarah as my plus one to enjoy it together with me!(:

The Menu + How to Order?

For your reference, here’s the full menu available at SAMA Curry! Really love the cute bear mascot by the way hehe!

To order, here are the steps:

  1. Choose a curry type (depends on your preference)
  2. Choose spicy level (Lv 0 – Lv 30?!))
  3. Choose your base (tomato/shrimp/Japanese/Coconut)
  4. Add on toppings + rice + side dishes (at extra costs)

Just to share, their lunch promotional set is pretty worth it!

The Food

It was our first time trying soup curry and we ordered the hamburg and seafood version as we thought that it was pretty interesting to try. Shared it between us but I will have to say that the portion is very big! Small eaters can even share 1 soup curry and order 2 rice sets! But you will have to fight over the last bit of that delicious curry though hahhaa!

Moo Moo Hamburg – $16.90 + Extra Cheese $2.00

Ocean Trophy – $18.90

Oh yeah, all the soup curries come with an onsen egg inclusive!

Let’s just say that we are now official converts of Japanese soup curries! It was good! Both curries have their own unique flavors and distinct strong taste (beefy vs seafood) so it really depends on your preference which you will like better. For us? We LOVED them both! Note that it is a calorie heavy meal (rice + potato + curry) – you will DEFINITELY be so stuffed after your meal!

We also ordered 2 sets of rice to go along with it – 1 is the normal Hokkaido plain rice and the other comes with minced pork and cheese, how interesting? There is not much difference between them, it depends if you want more cheese+pork with your rice.

Rice with Minced Pork & Cheese – $3

Rice Omori – $1.50

No matter what, the rice goes FANTASTIC with that delicious curry! YUMS!

Oh ya, we also shared 1 side, the Hokkaido imomochi cheese as seen below!

Hokkaido Imomochi Cheese (2 Pieces) – $6.50

Cheese lovers will LOVE this. For me, I thought it was okay but I prefer the curry of course hahaha!

This is the aftermath of our meal – we literally wiped out the 2 curries and our rice! As you can tell, we enjoyed the meal completely and will definitely be back / recommend to our friends/readers! 😊

Oh yes we will be back again next time!

Heh, let me know what you think if you’ve tried it too!

Meanwhile, if you found this post useful – SHARE the LOVE! ❤

Note: This was an invited food tasting but all opinions are of my own!
