Just sharing my Japanese snack haul from Chokuhan-Shop on Rakuten Singapore below! Was so happy when I received my package because I was in total snack heaven!~
Believe it or not – you can get all 17 assorted Japanese snacks at a special price of $28.60 (U.P $38.60) if you use my special discount code {MITZUO10} on Rakuten! Wow, that’s like $1.70 per item which is super cheap! O_O
Most of the snacks look familiar but some are EXCLUSIVELY available from Japan – this means you can’t buy them in Singapore! Let’s take a quick look and my mini review of the 5 snacks that are exclusive to Japan in my snack haul below! (:
1. Calbee Vegips
Being vegetable chips, the Calbee Vegips are a healthier version of snacks to go when you’re craving for a bite! It’s a mixture of potato, carrots and onions in a chip form that looks like the real thing – but they are crispy, light in flavor and super delicious! The only downside is that the packet is so small that I finished it almost immediately 🙁
2. Kamedaseika Happy Turn
Japan is famous for their delicious rice crackers (aka senbei) and the Kamedaseika Happy Turn is an excellent example. It may look pretty unassuming but the sweet salty flavor of the rice cracker just hits the spot and you can’t stop at just 1!! This was the first snack to be polished off by the way 😛 Oh and no surprise that this is one of the most popular brands in Japan amongst adults and children alike!
3. Meiji Yogurette
Now this is a sweet you probably have never really seen before unless you’ve been to Japan. The packaging is very misleading and it looks like medication initially but don’t worry – it really is a sweet in tablet form! Pop in your mouth and as it melts, you can taste a light yogurt flavor which reminds me of Yakult(: A really interesting sweet and I like it!
4. Sakuma Drops
Sakuma Drops are a wildly popular Japanese hard candy brand available in a tin form as seen below. Believe it or not but Sakuma Drops have been around for over 100 years and it’s popularity has not diminished since then especially when it was featured in Studio Ghibli’s Grave of the Fireflies! In each tin are hard candies of different colors and fruit flavors – which actually taste like the real thing! You can kinda figure out the fruit flavor but for easy reference; here you go:
Green: Green Apple
Orange – Orange
Yellow – Pineapple
White – Mint or Lemon
Purple – Grape
Pink/Red – Strawberry
Brown – Chocolate (yes, you read that right, chocolate!)
5. Kabaya Pikachu Pretzels
Kabaya has the cutest character packaging that appeal to me! The one available in Singapore (and are not easy to find!) are my Kabaya Rilakkuma pretzels – but what I didn’t know was the availability of Kabaya Pikachu Pretzels too! Again, this is only available in Japan so I’m really glad I got my hands on this! Keeping the packaging of course because I LOVE Pikachu! This particular snack are cookies and cream covered pretzel sticks that perfect for snacking and sharing (but keep the cute packaging!)! (:
Yay for snack time! ^^
Meanwhile, here are the rest of the other 12 Japanese snacks! Do note that the packaging in Japan and Singapore may differ; hence the appearance looks slightly different(:
6. Glico Strawberry Pocky
7. Lotte Choco Pie
8. Glico Pocky Chocolate
9. Lotte Koala March
10. Nabisco Oreo Bits Sandwich
11. Fujiya Anpanman Gummy
12. Morinaga Hi-Chew (Grape)
13. Ginbis Animal Butter Biscuits
14. Lotte Fruit Pie
15. Calbee JagaRiko Salad
16. Nestlé Kit Kat Green Tea
17. Morinaga Caramel
To be honest, I would say that some of the snacks can be found easily (i.e Pocky & Hi-Chew) but you have to hunt the rest of them individually (i.e Lotte Fruit Pie & Morinaga Caramel) at selected Fairprice Finest supermarkets, petrol kiosks or Meida-Ya in Singapore. Of course, this excludes the other 5 inital snacks because they are exclusively available only from Japan.
So save all the trouble when you can get them delivered to the comfort of your own home by purchasing them off Rakuten Singapore!
