Food Bites | Sing Ho Hainan Chicken Rice @ 270 Middle Road

Recently, the colleagues and I wanted to try out a new dessert cafe called Density Frozen Custard (review up soon) and decided to have our lunch at the chicken rice stall located at the same area.

Essentially, if you have a craving for chicken rice for lunch, there are only 2 places around my workplace that sells this dish – one at Isle Eating House (somewhat of a food court) at Parklane and Sing Ho Hainan Chicken Rice.

Sing Ho Hainan Chicken Rice

Sing Ho Hainan Chicken Rice is a pretty popular chicken rice stall, always crowded during lunch and dinner timings. It’s a no frills place with no air conditioning so if you go during lunch time – it can be really really hot!

There have a varied menu provided, but I didn’t take a photo of it. You can refer to the full menu of Yelp HERE!

Just note that there is no clear ordering system. Was not too sure where to place our order, so we headed to the counter (?) area and were waved away. So I would suggest you just pick a table and wait for them to approach you with the menu instead =_=

Another thing to note that the waiting time for your food is extremely slow – expect to wait up to 10~15 minutes, yes even for a plate of chicken rice! So if you are in a rush, I wouldn’t suggest you order there especially during their peak periods.

After a long wait, our food were finally served! The rest of my group had the roasted chicken rice while I opted for the white chicken. Most people do mention that the price is pretty hefty for the amount served, but I thought the serving size for the chicken was pretty good considering that there are some chicken rice stalls in food courts serving considerably less chicken at a more expensive price. I will however, have to acknowledge that the rice serving is small – but small eaters will find it sufficient though.

Meanwhile, the chicken was soft and tender but slightly bland. Had to dunk it into the dark soy sauce / chilli for it to be more flavourful. Rice was just average.

Overall, it is only worth to visit if you are in the vicinity, have the time to spare and have a craving for chicken rice. Otherwise, skip it.
