Navy Serviceman Jason Chee back at work

Navy serviceman Jason Chee has returned to work today (June 3), just 18 months after he lost three limbs in a horrific accident on board a navy ship.

The Ministry of Defence’s Cyberpioneer news site reports that Military Expert (ME) 2 Chee has assumed a new role as Operations Supervisor at Changi Navy Base with the 191 Squadron. The role will see him help Navy units to craft and plan their training requirements, it said.

“I’m very happy about (returning to work) because I can keep myself busy. I don’t want to be at home and doing nothing,” Mr Chee said in the report. “Before my accident, I was working on a ship. I loved to be on ship and to sail. I’ll have to start all over again but I’ll just have to do it,” he added.

Mr Chee’s return to work caps a remarkable comeback. He had lost both legs and an arm, after he was caught between a motorised winch and berthing rope during a routine check on the RSS Endeavour landing ship tank in December two years ago.

However, sheer determination and pluck helped him in his rehabilitation. He even clinched a bronze team medal for Singapore in the 7th ASEAN Para Games held in Myanmar five months ago. The serviceman said he will continue trying to excel as a table tennis player and aims to take part in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
