Last weekend, Crystal and I headed down to Alocassia Apartments located at Bukit Timah for the exclusive opening / food tasting at EN Japanese Dining Bar.
En Japanese Dining Bar @ Alocassia
It was pretty easy to locate the place – along the long stretch of Bukit Timah Road opposite SCGS. Took a cab down though as the bf was too busy playing soccer to send me there, lol.

Interior & Exterior
There are 2 entrances to the restaurant, 1 which can be accessed from the outside as seen below. Plenty of alfresco seating on the patio if you prefer dining outdoors – but you know me, I’m an indoor person(:
This is the other entrance to En Japanese Dining Bar which is accessed from inside the Alocassia Apartments and which we proceeded to enter from.
Entering the restaurant makes me feel that I was slightly transported to Japan – I mean, the entire design of the place is set up in such a way that screams ‘JAPANESE’ with an authentic Japanese chef, sushi bar and japanese style private dining/tatami rooms all done up in dark, earthy tones.
Lol, we were seated at the more modern side though ;x
The Menu – En Japanese Dining Bar

The Food
I was really overwhelmed by all the choices available in the menu but lucky for us, we were about to be served some of their recommended dishes – thank goodness I didn’t have to think too hard on what to order!
Sashimi Platter
We were first served with a sashimi platter with 5 different types of sashimi including salmon sashimi and tuna. Well, to be honest, I’ve only eaten sashimi once in my life at Sakura Buffet and it wasn’t an experience that I wanted to repeat again because it was pretty bad.
I decided to take the plunge and try sashimi once again this time at En Japanese Dining Bar and thankfully, the experience was definitely nicer though I’m still not a fan. I like the one on the left the most, but I’m not sure what it is – yellowfish? For Crystal – she was in sashimi paradise and happily tucked into everything on the platter!
Salmon Carpaccio
Here’s another dish I had the experience of sampling. Crystal seemed a huge fan because she practically finished the entire dish herself!
Beef Carpaccio
If I liked anything raw – it would be beef so I was really happy with the beef carpaccio! Hands down, this was my most favourite dish of the entire meal. It was really fresh and super good! Between us both, the dish was wiped clean in no time(: A highly recommended order and if I were to return, this is definitely on my to-order list!
California Maki
And of course, we had sushi starting with the California maki. Freshly made, it was good(:
Califonia Maki with Salmon Cheese
Platter of Various Sushi
We were also served a platter of various sushi but I only ate the ebi sushi as I was still too stuffed from the rest of the food we had so far – I liked it though(:
Gekkeikan Sake (1.5L)
One of the best thing to accompany a sushi/sashimi session is japanese sake and a huge 1.5L bottle of Gekkeikan Sake was opened for our gathering – really ‘shiok’ to eat, drink and be merry. A group of 6 girls can easily polish off the bottle within a night if you were wondering 😉
Japanese Beer
Another alternative – Japanese Beer?
Selection of Various Yakitori
And now came my more favourite items – cooked items, starting with a variety of yakitori skewers! My top picks – the mushrooms and bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms!(:
Goya Chanpuru
This is a very popular Okinawa dish which is basically stir fried bitter gourd with spam, tofu and egg! Wasn’t a fan of bitter gourd but this version was surprisingly decent – an interesting first experience(:
Tempura
Ah, also forgot to mention that I also enjoyed the prawn tempura! The batter used was fantastic and paired with the dipping sauce — mm, me gusta!(:
Shabu Shabu
We were able to sample so many dishes thanks to the generosity of En Japanese Dining Bar and we still had to leave room in our tummy for the shabu shabu!
Premium Beef Shabu Shabu
Look at the gorgeous marbling on the premium beef shabu shabu – it looked good and was beautiful melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Take a slice, dip and swish into the boiling soup and then..ENJOY! 😀
Queen Crab
Before I forget, here’s sharing a photo of the queen crab legs that we had as well. It was my first time trying it but I think that it’s actually tastier compared to snow crab legs! 😀
The Verdict
It was my first time trying out a lot of food items that I’ve never tried before, mainly the sashimi and it was definitely an eye-opener to me. Pity that I still haven’t developed the taste for it but I think the bf is glad I didn’t because sashimi is pretty expensive! Heh, I likethe queen crab though 😛
In general, Crystal and I liked the lovely presentation of the dishes, the whole environment and of course the food! On the whole, we felt that the dining experience at En Japanese Dining Bar @ Alocassia was very enjoyable!(:
Thank you Katherine for the invitation! 😀
