Don’t Just Speak Love by Chalie Teh

If you didn’t know, I’m pretty much of a bookworm since young! And one of my main enjoyments after a hard day at work is curling up in bed with a nice romance novel to end off the day(: I tend to read all types of romance sub-genres with an inclination towards to historical / paranormal / fantasy and regency.

Due to that, I was pretty psyched when a Singapore author, Chalie Teh approached me to do a book review of her new book, Don’t Just Speak Love because of a few factors:

  1. #SupportLocalTalent – Yes, a Singaporean author! And this is her first novel(:
  2. It falls under my favourite romance genre / sub-genres!

My Book Review

I brought her book as my reading material for my Taiwan trip a couple of weeks ago as mentioned HERE (travelogue coming soon) and finished reading it on my way back to Singapore on the plane. Scroll down for my review!(:

To start off, I have to say that this is the first time I’m reading a YA (Young Adult) romance novel and written by a Singaporean author to boot! It’s definitely a new experience because for once, you actually can relate to the book because it’s also set in Singapore!

Will try not to spoil too much of the book for you as much as I can 😡

The story started off with the main character, a local Singaporean girl – Averie enrolling into Black Gold International College because her long lost mom left her a note instructing her to do so. From there on, you will meet a number of new characters namely, Asa, Chastity, Acacia and Ms Evaline (aka Ms Psychotic) and you will sucked into her world where new girl Averie struggles to balance school life, exams, bullying as well as family issues.

Of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg because that’s where other characters such as Sir Albion, Atward, her mom, Lucifer and of course, Sasuke comes in when it is revealed that she is no ordinary Singaporean girl — but a nephilim (part human part angel) instead! What a twist right? Heh, it’s pretty interesting to learn about the 4 Archangels and their relationships to the 12 Astrological signs as explained by Sir Albion. To know more about what I’m talking about, go read the book 😛

In general, I like most of the characters in the novel and Sasuke is definitely a crowd favourite – including myself because he’s just so sweet! In particular, I really enjoyed reading how the romance between him and Averie blossomed through the book and the ending was just perfect for them!(:

I also like how the story unfolds with a couple of unexpected twists and humor peppered throughout. Best of all, it ends off rather nicely with no loose ends! Overall, I think that the book is a quick, casual but fun read, and I would recommend you check it out!(:

My Thanks

Would like to end off by thanking Chalie Teh for sponsoring the 3 hardcopy books for review and a blog giveaway for my readers! It was a pleasure reading and I have to say that she’s definitely one Singaporean author to keep an eye on!(:
