You won’t believe what these farmed cockroaches are used for in China

Believe it or not — cockroaches are big business in China, with many farming them for sale to factories. Most disgusting of all is the fact that the pests are used as additives for both cosmetic and medical use.

According to a report on Liveleak, this 43-year-old Chinese businessman is the largest cockroach producer in China.

He owns six farms populated by an estimated 10 million cockroaches, and sells them to producers of Asian medicine and to cosmetic companies that value the insects as a cheap source of protein as well as for the cellulose-like substance in their wings.

So the next time you feel tempted to stock up on cosmetics or traditional medicines in China, you might want to think about where the raw materials used come from.
