Fishball factory worker gets hand trapped in meat grinder

A 28-year-old fishball factory worker, Chinese national Sun Xiao Bo, 27, was grinding fish meat when his left forearm was stuck in the grinder. The incident took place yesterday at Leong Hin Foods at 15, Woodlands Loop. Sun Xiao Bo, whose hand was trapped in a meat grinder, was rushed to the hospital on Thursday morning, with part of the machine still attached to his arm.

Rescuers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (Dart) had to dismantle part of the grinder where the victim’s left wrist was trapped in. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said Dart officers had to make the decision to remove the grinder from a bigger housing unit as the man was losing a lot of blood.

The hand of the Chinese national from Leong Hin Foods was later removed at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, after an intricate operation by by emergency doctors with help from Dart officers. He is believed to have lost four fingers.
