BF charged with knocking down teacher at carpark and killing her
A man was charged yesterday (Jul 22) with causing the death of his girlfriend, a kindergarten teacher, at a carpark in Jurong.
According to an article in The Straits Times, Chinese national Liu Zhongwei is alleged to have driven his car forward and knocked into his girlfriend, Li Minna, 32, who was standing in front of his car. The incident occurred on July 14 at about 9.30pm at a carpark in Bird Park Drive, off Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim.
The 31-year-old logistic driver was charged with causing her death by committing a rash act that does not amount to culpable homicide. Liu is suspected of leaving the scene after he had knocked down the victim. It is not known if he will plead guilty. The Straits Times reported that the couple had been together for about a year and had been staying in a Jurong flat since March this year.

Ms Li’s cousin, who wanted to be known only as Mr Li, said: “Her mother still doesn’t know of her daughter’s passing because she has a heart condition.” But Ms Li’s father, brother and uncle have arrived in Singapore and are staying with a friend.
Chinese evening daily Lianhe Wanbao reported that the couple had been neighbours and classmates from Changchun and they started dating when they met again in Singapore more than a year ago. The judge had approved of the prosecution’s application to extend Liu’s remand by one week at Bedok Police Division for investigation. The case will continue on July 29. If Liu is convicted, he will face a jail term of up to five years or fine or both.
