One man dead, two injured after SMRT bus overturns on Dairy Farm Road

A male passenger died after being trapped in an SMRT bus 700 which skidded and overturned at the junction of the Bukit Timah Expressway and Dairy Farm Road this morning (July 21). According to a report in The Straits Times and Shin Min Daily News, another male passenger and the bus driver have also been conveyed to National University Hospital for treatment.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call for assistance at 8.57am and arrived to find a male passenger trapped onboard bus service number 700A. The trapped passenger was extricated using rescue tools, but the 19 year old man was later pronounced dead on the scene.

In a post on its Facebook page, transport operator SMRT said it is making a full assessment of the situation is working closely with the SCDF and the police on their investigations. “We are deeply saddened by the incident and extend our compassion to family members of the deceased, and will do all we can to assist the injured passengers and their families,” the company said.

Police investigations into the accident are ongoing.

Very tragic news to hear this afternoon when I woke up. The guy was only 19 years old based on Shin Min’s report..really RIP to him and condolences to his family members. Hope the other two who were injured will pull through. Meanwhile, the police are still investigating what exactly happened here this morning.
