Last night, the bf and I attended a movie screening at Shaw Preview Theatre once again – this time, to watch Welcome to the Punch brought to you by Shaw and omy.sg(:
As usual to start off, here’s a short synopsis of the movie:
WELCOME TO THE PUNCH is the second feature from Shifty writer-director Eran Creevy and producers Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh. The film focuses on the relationship between detective Max Lewinsky and Ex-criminal Jacob Sternwood, focusing on the moment Jacob’s son is involved in a heist gone wrong, forcing him to return to London from his Icelandic hideaway. This gives Max another chance to take down the man he’s always been after, a man who has humiliated and physically scarred him. With the two men set on an unremitting collision course, they come across a deeper conspiracy that they will both need to solve in order to survive.
Written and directed by BAFTA nominated Eran Creevy (Shifty), WELCOME TO THE PUNCH is a crime-thriller shot in and around the modern city-scapes of London including the banking centre of Canary Wharf and the city’s rejuvenated East End. The film stars James McAvoy (X-Men: First Class, Wanted, Atonement, The Last King Of Scotland), Mark Strong (Sherlock Holmes; Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy), and Andrea Riseborough (W.E.), along with Peter Mullan (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tyrannosaur), David Morrissey (Nowhere Boy, The Other Boleyn Girl), Daniel Mays (Shifty) and Johnny Harris (The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus).

The bf and my Review:
As you can tell from the pictures above, the movie is jam packed full of action especially with gun fights, actions scenes right from the start of the movie! And obviously, there will be a number of causalities. There is one portion where I felt that one of the characters left too early as the character was relatively undeveloped and both the bf and I were surprised at that. Well, with a stellar lineup of cast such as James McAvoy and Mark Strong who acted out their roles perfectly down to the facial expressions and gritty personalities, you can really expect the movie to definitely pack a punch! Also surprisingly, the movie is also sometimes peppered with some humor here and there which will make you smile – if you get it that is.
The only downside we had for the movie was that the bf felt that the movie needed subtitles as the accents were really thick so he wasn’t able to catch on to what they were saying. Still, our eyes were continuously glued to the screen for the entire 99 minutes of screening as we watched the conspiracy unfold in front of our eyes. Generally, there was never really much of a dull moment and the sound effects were really loud and clear – which really adds to the movie!(:
Overall, a relatively decent film for all die hard action fans out there looking to pump up your adrenaline while watching!(:
Welcome to the Punch will be available at Shaw Theaters from 18 July 2o13.
Lastly, as usual, just wanted to end off by thanking Omy.sg and Shaw for this movie invite!(:
