Last night, the bf brought me out for dinner at around Tanjong Katong area. The initial plan was to have dinner at With a Pinch of Salt, but unfortunately, it was closed for an event. So we walked around the area looking for a decent place to eat. It was still pretty hazy so we ruled out a number of places that we wanted to try and in the end, we just decided to eat at NG AH SIO Bak Kut Teh: 黄亚细肉骨茶.

And here’s the exterior:
The menu:
The menu is rather basic and choices are relatively limited to the following items as seen from the menu.
Their signature bak kut teh soups:
- Signature Spare & Pork Ribs Combo Soup
- Signature Spare Ribs Soup
- Signature Pork Ribs Soup
The side dishes to be enjoyed alongside are as follows:
The drinks menu:
Ordering is done by filling up this OAS sheet and giving it to the waiter.
While waiting for our food to arrived, I snapped a couple of photos around the restaurant to show you how the general layout of the place.

General interior – and yes, it’s air-conditioned!(:
Finally, our food were served and here’s what we ordered:
1. Braised Peanuts – S$2.50
It’s one of the must orders for the bf as he loves eating these peanuts! The taste is nothing special imo, just your regular ol’ braised peanuts!
2. Braised Duck (1/4) – S$10.00
I think the braised duck was the standout dish of all that we ordered and we really liked it the best! The meat was really nice and tender, a little fatty but it’s ohh so good! Portion was perfect for two to share and would recommend that you order this(:
The braised duck also comes with this special chilli sauce, but honestly, I don’t think it compliments the duck very well. I don’t really like the taste of it – prefer the duck in it’s original braised sauce.
3. Braised Winter Mushroom – S$5.00
My mom usually cooks this mushroom for me and I like how it reminds me of her home cooking. Plus I’m an avid mushroom lover hence, this dish appeals very much to me(: Of course, this is a personal opinion.
4. Signature Pork Ribs Soup – S$5.50
We both ordered the signature pork ribs soup instead of the spare ribs soup because well, I didn’t know how to appreciate eating spare ribs. Plus, I generally love drinking soup more than eating the ingredients hence, I opted for the cheaper one. LOL yes, I’m weird in that sense! Oh and I’m going to tell you something shocking – my bf has NEVER tried bak kut teh before so this was the first time he was trying it.
So for all you first-timers trying bak kut teh, basically just be prepared for the strong peppery taste that was rock your tastebuds! My bf doesn’t really take to spiciness and pepper well so he was shocked when he tried the soup for the first time. In general, the soup is really aromatic and we each had 3 huge pieces of pork ribs. Unfortunately, the pork was not as tender as I expected, so I was a little disappointed.
Yepp, so here’s the general overview of what we ordered at NG AH SIO Bak Kut Teh: 黄亚细肉骨茶! Overall, we had a general decent experience there though we just felt that the portions were too small for our appetites as we didn’t feel full after eating all these XD
The whole meal cost S$33.15 for both of us – which works out to be about S$17 per person. It’s relatively decent considering that we had braised duck, mushrooms, and bak kut teh each and enjoyed it in air conditioned comfort.

Spare ribs is the tender one. The standard pork ribs are the rock hard ones.
