‘A-GRADE’ NUS STUDENT TOOK UPSKIRT VIDEO OF WOMAN IN TOILET

AN “A-grade student” who took an upskirt video of a woman going to the toilet at the National University of Singapore was jailed for a week yesterday.

Lector Paune Abelardo Jr, 24, went into a women’s toilet and slid his cellphone under the cubicle. It was there for only a moment but the victim, who cannot be named due to a gag order, saw it and told police. Abelardo Jr admitted to officers that he used his phone to film the Chinese national at about 9pm on April 23 last year.The Filipino pleaded guilty to insulting the modesty of his 30-year-old victim.

At the time, he was a third-year engineering student at the university. The victim was a fourth-year student doing her doctorate in economics. A second charge of committing trespass by going into the women’s toilet was taken into consideration by the judge. Pleading for leniency, defence counsel Mohan Das Naidu said Abelardo Jr’s grades were excellent.

The lawyer also tendered an Institute of Mental Health report stating his client suffered from a mental disorder. He declined to reveal details to reporters but said his client was an “A-grade student”.
