War memorial defaced: STOMPer’s fiance chased after vandal in hoodie
STOMPer deepsecret‘s fiancé had chased after a man in a dark blue hoodie who was vandalising the Cenotaph located within the Esplanade Park on Apr 23, at around 11.15pm.
The Cenotaph is a war memorial that was built in memory of men in Singapore who gave their lives in World War I and World War II.
Said the STOMPer:
“On 23 April 2013 at about 2315hrs, my fiancé and I witnessed a man vandalizing this monument.
“He was with his headphones, in a dark blue hoodie, dark jeans and shoes along with a brown/black backpack.
“My fiancé chased after him. He then mentioned somehow in fear, “Oh its revolution”.

SINGAPORE – Workers have been cleaning up the Cenotaph at Esplanade Park for the past three hours, after the national monument was reported to be vandalised earlier today. The word, Democracy, was reportedly sprayed painted over the monument.
The Cenotaph was erected in 1920 for soldiers lost in World War I. A dedication to those who died in World War II was added later. It was gazetted as a national monument in Dec 2010.
For God’s sake, this is a national war memorial, not a random wall to vandalize on. And to add on, this isn’t ‘democracy’ in any way – instead, this is called:
HAVING NO RESPECT.
Seriously, has the person no respect for the lives for the men who gave their lives in WWI and WWII for Singapore? I’m super horrified at his/her actions.
