14-year-old Joehann Johari, a Raffles Institution’s C Division rugby team member, fainted while jogging during training at around 9am last Wednesday, and is still in critical condition.
The year 2 student has been warded in the KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital’s intensive care unit where a ventilation machine is helping him breathe. The Straits Times reported that he is suffering from liver and kidney failure and has not undergone any surgery.
In a statement to The Straits Times, RI confirmed the incident, adding that the student is “currently undergoing treatment” and that the school’s “staff are in touch with the family to provide any assistance as needed”.
The boy’s parents have been by his side since he was warded, and the school staff have been visiting him daily. The school and Joehann’s mother declined further comment.
I hope that all will be well.
May this case not turn out to be like Nur Aisyah who died during her 2.4km run on her 13th birthday this month…
Fingers crossed for Joehann Johari
