This is Ah Piak, also known as Piak and she is my neighborhood stray cat. Isn’t she beautiful? I was so lucky to be able to snap a gorgeous picture of her this morning as usually I only get to see her at night on my way home from work. And generally almost every night she will be waiting outside my apartment’s gate, not sure for what reason but it’s not solely because of me nor the resident cat feeder.

I’ve known Piak for over 5-6 years ever since she was a small kitten as I used to be the resident cat feeder in my area during my Secondary School days. Unfortunately, I stopped feeding them as my mom forbid me to do so. Don’t worry though, there is another resident cat feeder who feeds her and all the other cats around.

Throughout the years, I’ve watched her and her kittens grow up and I have to say, she’s my favourite kitty of all. Her kittens have all left for another residential area but she stayed. But best of all, she still recognizes me from before, even till now. As mentioned, she would be waiting outside my apartment gates and when she spots me and the boyfriend walking back from work, she will walk up to us.

Oh and if you were wondering, why is she called Piak? Well, that’s the sound she makes when she flops to the ground to the side and looks up to us asking for a pet. So she goes ‘PIAK’ and most of time, she lands on the boyfriend’s foot or mine. Very cute. She’s not very vocal either – whether in terms of mewing or purring, but she’s a joy to pet.

My other neighbourhood cats – Ah Miao, Pretty Cat/Ah Dao, the Ginger Family and some other unnamed cats aren’t so friendly. Well, no surprise as they are pretty new in the neighbourhood, as I’ve only seen them starting this year. Plus each has it’s own ‘terrority’ and they are pretty territorial with each other. Think hissing and spitting, but they run off the moment I try to approach them. That’s okay though, I have Piak.

Suffice to say, Piak is my inspiration for the GlamPuss‘s name/logo when I was thinking of a name for my online shop. Then it so happened that I looked at Piak in that Glamour Puss position of hers and thus, the name came about. Also, I’ve decided to officially nominate Piak as our GlamPuss mascot. I told her that this morning and she cocked her head.

I’m going to take that as a yes.
